When pandemic and poverty bind, human suffering becomes more severe and painful!
Palestinian refugees in Lebanon are not only threatened by the COVID-19 outbreak, but also by lack of income and food insecurity. Why? Because one out of three employed Palestinian refugees are in precarious jobs, working as daily, weekly or temporary laborers. Half of those who work earn less than 500,000 LBP. Their inability to pursue their work means hunger to their families!
To better face this pandemic, we should support those families stay in their homes safe and contribute towards reducing the spread of the disease.
120,000 LBP provides the basic needs of food and other essential household items for the most vulnerable families for eight weeks
Contribute to our campaign "Together We Can" and help us distribute vouchers in exchange of food and other household items, protecting some of the poorest families of the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and the Palestinian refugees from Syria.
The current situation is critical and demands our urgent action. The COVID-19 outbreak has further exacerbated the socio-economic hardship of the refugees with two–third living below the poverty line. The complete lockdown brought detrimental consequences to the already collapsing economy that led to an unprecedented rise in the cost of daily living. The weekly Minimum Expenditure Basket has increased from 37,000 LBP in September 2019 to 51,000 LBP in February 2020; and the Food Price Index (FPI) has increased by 18.4% during the same period. Meanwhile, hundreds of businesses are closing doors, thousands of employees are losing their jobs, and many of those still employed are facing salary cuts.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” said Helen Keller.
Help us achieve our goal in reaching 10,000 marginalized families across all the refugee camps.
