Ramallah – May 14, 2016. Bank of Palestine and Taawon - Welfare Association signed a donation agreement to contribute in supporting the activities of the Palestinian museum, one of the most important projects for the Welfare Association. This project aims to promote the Palestinian culture both locally and internationally, produce new stories about the Palestinian history, culture and society, and provide an environment to incubate creative projects, educational projects and innovative research. The agreement was signed at Bank of Palestinian’s General Management Head Office in Ramallah; the agreement was signed by Mr. Hashim Shawa, Bank of Palestine’s Chairman and General Manager, and Dr. Tafeeda Jarbawi, General Manager of Welfare Association, in the presence of Mr. Omar Al-Qattan, The Palestinian Museum’s Chairman, and a group of officials and managers from both entities.
Under the agreement, Bank of Palestine will donate one million dollars towards the programs of the Palestinian Museum over the course of ten years, starting from this year. The Welfare Association will be responsible for administrative, financial and technical supervision, according to the priorities of the Palestinian Museum in promoting inclusive national identity, democratic dialogue and culture of acceptance to others, the Palestinian presence locally, regionally and locally, and enhancing the culture of continuous education with its various cultural tools.
Mr. Hashim Shawa expressed his pride in the support provided by the Bank to the Palestinian Museum, which is due to the Bank’s belief in the importance of enhancing the Palestinian identity and its presence in all Palestinian cities. According to Shawa, the Palestinian Museum will be one of the pillars to instill the Palestinian identity and revive the historical memory of the Palestinian people. Shawa added that the Palestinian Museum is one of the most important Palestinian cultural centers that will be inaugurated next week, and will have a great impact in Palestinian and internationally; he added that the inauguration ceremony will represent a cultural wedding to Palestine and the Palestinians.
Dr. Tafeeda Jarbawi thanked Bank of Palestine for the generous and continuous support to the Welfare Association. She added: “Bank of Palestine remains to be a strategic partner to the Welfare Association and we are proud of this partnership. It is a great achievement to have a Palestinian Museum with these standards and inclusive national vision and for our partnership to continue to contribute in achieving the goals of the Palestinian Museum and the Welfare Association”.
Mr. Omar Al-Qattan valued the high trust provided by Bank of Palestine to the Palestinian Museum. He added: “we are currently in the initial phase at the Museum, and we are pleased that Bank of Palestine’s donation contributes towards supporting the programs under development, which will ensure the success of the museum and advance it to the standards we aspire to”.
