Lessons of Hope from the Children of Gaza

Every success story starts with a dream. And at Bayt.com, our dream is to empower others to lead better lives.

The stories of Rahaf and Dalia are ones full of hope and dreams. Their childhood was plagued by loss, war and trauma. Yet, with the help of Mustaqbali and Bayt.com, the two little girls were able to turn their misfortune into something that is truly inspiring and heartwarming.

In this blog post, we share the stories of Rahaf and Dalia.

Rahaf Al-Ghandour, a seven-year-old from Gaza, is a ball of fun and laughter. Although she has experienced multiple wars in her short lifetime, and lost her father to one of them, Rahaf continues to show determination and ambition. She has been receiving regular assistance to help her cope psychologically and shine among her peers. In turn, Rahaf has become an eager student, who loves to learn and excels in her studies. She enjoys her remedial classes and extra-curricular activities, which give her the support she needs to succeed in her education. She especially loves art, and is very enthusiastic whenever she receives her art supplies, especially if they include red crayons or paint – her favorite color. Rahaf is loved by all; she inspires everyone through her cheerful demeanor and charming character. She has found the ability to overcome her obstacles and blossom into a success story with a small push and some encouragement.

Dalia Al-Kadra, is yet another success story to be proud of. Nine-year-old Dalia started showing signs of quadriplegia, and mental and speech impairments at a very young age. She’s lost both her parents, and is under the care of her grandmother. Since the beginning of Dalia’s sponsorship, she has shown vast improvement on all fronts. She receives regular physiotherapy, and speech therapy, and has overcome many of her hurdles. With a little determination, Dalia can now do the basic things she needs to take care of herself. She’s gained the ability to move better, as well as speak and express herself. She can even draw and color. Her grandmother is no longer worried about her wellbeing and knows that Dalia has gained independence and enthusiasm. Today, Dalia is full of life and motivated to continue developing her abilities and skills.

The Mustaqbali program was launched in 2009 by the Abraaj Group and Welfare Association. It seeks to empower the under-privileged and orphaned children of Gaza after the war, and to provide them the prospect of a satisfying childhood and accomplished life. The result is the spread of success, hope and better lives for the children, and in turn, the development of Gaza. Bayt.comhas been a supporter of the program since 2012, sponsoring 25 children every year.
